What documents do you need to rent a car in Morocco?

Licence, ID, deposit: the exact list of documents to present to rent a car in Morocco, whether you are a resident, diaspora or tourist.

Renting a car in Morocco is simple, provided you bring the right documents on collection day. Here's exactly what we'll ask for at Ihssane Car, in Témara, Rabat or at the airport.

The basic documents

In almost every case, two documents are enough for the main driver:

  • A valid ID: national ID card (CIN) for residents, passport for visitors.
  • A valid driving licence, held for at least one year.

That's it: no complicated proof of address, no file to build. You sign the contract, pay the deposit, and you're off.

For visitors and the diaspora

If you are coming from abroad, your valid national licence is accepted for a tourist stay. An international permit is a welcome plus, especially if your licence is not in the Latin alphabet, but it is not mandatory.

Remember to travel with your passport: it serves as your ID, not the CIN if you live abroad.

The additional driver

If a second person will drive, they must be named on the contract and present the same documents: ID and a licence held for at least one year. This matters to stay covered by the insurance.

And the deposit?

The deposit isn't a document, but it's part of the collection-day process. With us, it's paid in cash, with no credit card required, and returned when you bring the car back.

Frequently asked questions

Do you need an international permit in Morocco?

No, it is not mandatory. Your valid national licence is enough for a tourist stay. An international permit is still recommended if your licence is not in the Latin alphabet.

What is the minimum age to rent?

Generally 21, with a licence held for at least one year. See our dedicated guide on minimum age and foreign licences.
