Driving in Morocco: speed, tolls and parking
Speed limits, toll motorways, parking and attendants: the practical guide to driving with confidence in Morocco.
Driving in Morocco is easy and pleasant, especially on the modern motorway network. A few pointers are enough to drive with confidence between Rabat, Casablanca and the rest of the country.
Speed limits
The usual limits are:
- Motorway: 120 km/h
- National road: 100 km/h (sometimes 80)
- Built-up areas: 40 to 60 km/h
Speed cameras are common, especially at town entrances and on national roads. Respect the signs: speed checks are frequent and fines are paid on the spot.
Toll motorways
The motorway network (Rabat–Casablanca, Rabat–Tangier, Casablanca–Marrakech…) is tolled. You take a ticket at the entrance and pay at the exit, in cash or by card depending on the toll station. Keep some change handy.
Parking and attendants
In town you'll often meet car attendants in hi-vis vests. A small tip (a few dirhams) is customary for supervised parking. In paid zones, take a ticket from the meter.
A few useful habits
Keep your documents to hand (licence, rental contract), always buckle up, and watch for scooters in town. If anything goes wrong, our assistance is reachable at any time.
